BMR and TDEE
BMR (basal metabolic rate) is the energy your body uses at rest. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor, and is the number of calories that keeps your weight steady.
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, considered one of the most accurate for most adults: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5 (men) or − 161 (women).
About 7,700 calories equal 1 kg of body weight, so a deficit of 500 calories a day means around 0.5 kg lost a week. Real results vary from person to person.
