      What is a Unix timestamp?

A Unix timestamp (or epoch time) is the number of seconds that have passed since January 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. It is a simple, time-zone-free way for computers to store moments in time. JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds instead, which makes the number 1,000 times larger (13 digits instead of 10).

      Example: 1760000000 is October 9, 2025 08:53:20 UTC.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Unix timestamp to a date?

Paste the timestamp in the first box. The date appears in UTC, in your local time and in ISO 8601 format.

How do I know if it is seconds or milliseconds?

A 10-digit number is seconds and a 13-digit number is milliseconds. The tool detects this for you.

How do I get the current Unix timestamp?

It is shown at the top and updates every second. Click Use current time to convert it.

What is the Year 2038 problem?

Systems that store the timestamp in a signed 32-bit number run out on January 19, 2038. Modern systems use 64 bits and are not affected.
