How to use the discount calculator
- Choose whether you want the sale price or the original price.
- Enter the price and the discount percentage. Add an extra discount or tax if they apply.
- Read the final price and how much you save.
Stacked discounts are not added together
Two discounts of 20% and 10% do not make 30%. The second discount applies to the already reduced price, so the total is 1 − 0.8 × 0.9 = 28%. This calculator applies them in order.
Finding the original price
If an item costs $75 after a 25% discount, the original price was 75 ÷ 0.75 = $100.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage discount?
Multiply the price by the discount percentage divided by 100, then subtract it from the price. A 25% discount on $120 saves $30, so you pay $90.
How do I find the original price?
Choose "Original price before discount", enter what you paid and the discount percentage.
Do two discounts add up?
No. The second is taken off the already discounted price, so the total saving is slightly less than the two percentages added together.
Does the calculator include tax?
Yes. Enter the tax rate to see the final price with tax.
